Coeur d’Alene-based Americana singer Mel Dalton is one to watch as she builds a devout following across the Northwest. Her musical style is an engaging blend of traditional & folk tunes with modern country & pop. Early classical training helped her cultivate a powerful and adaptable vocal instrument, and forty years of performing have earned her a charming stage presence, wide musical range, and the ability to build genuine rapport with an audience.

Mel’s career has brought her from the shores of the Puget Sound to the northern edge of the Rocky Mountains. She has appeared on festival and event stages across the region - by herself as a solo act, playing 90s country with the all-female trio The Midnight Juliets, and with several country and rock bands including Northwest Chill, Z Rex and the Ninjas, and most recently The Mel Dalton Band.

Her musical influences include Bonnie Raitt, Steve Perry, Miranda Lambert, and George Strait. Though her musical interests are very broad, country music has been a love since she was a teenager singing along to the radio with real-life stories, heartwarming harmonies, and honest lyrics.

A musician with range

While primarily a singer, Mel has also developed her skills as a rhythm guitarist, songwriter, bandleader, and event organizer. In 2023 she started The Lighthouse Showcase, a 501(c)3 nonprofit whose mission is to build community in the Inland Northwest through live music events.

She is Coordinator of her local NSAI Chapter and co-writes regularly with other musicians in the area; her blues co-write with Alison Joy Williams “Live With the Storm” hit #46 on The Big Blues Chart for July 2025 and received many other honors including 2025 Song of the Year runner-up for Doc’s Blues Awards.

Mel previously released two EPs and a number of singles, all of which are available to stream on all major platforms.

Ramblings and Recollections

…is a 5-track EP that runs the relationship gamut from the excitement of a meet-cute through dark times of escapism and dissociation to the healing that comes with new beginnings.

The breezy story song “Jackson Browne” leads off, with the otherworldly feel of “The Key of H” following closely behind. “The Moon and the Mountains” and “Further Down” evoke two sides of depression - the mask we show the outside world, and the exposed soul that we keep to ourselves. The EP finishes on a hopeful note with “Never the Same,” an uplifting look forward at possibilities.

It’s about building your own reality. It’s about the experiences of life and how we can shape them into what we want and need.
