Introducing
Mel Dalton
Rootsy and adventurous
Americana music
Coeur d’Alene-based Americana singer Mel Dalton is one to watch as she builds a devout following across the Northwest. Her rootsy and adventurous style is an engaging blend of traditional and folk tunes with modern country and pop.
Mel’s brandy-warm voice immerses the audience in sound, drawing even casual listeners in to experience the passion she wrings from every note. In the finest country and folk tradition, she writes songs that can make you cry - and love every minute of it.
“I’ve always gotten lost in music. Whatever song I’m playing becomes my world - it draws me in and holds me till the music ends.”
It’s no wonder she has won 2 Northwest Country Music Association awards for Best Performance (one with the Midnight Juliets) along with a dozen nominations, and has appeared on festival and event stages across the region.
Mel, a songwriter and self-taught guitarist, released her first commercial solo EP in August 2023. Ten years with the band Northwest Chill let her explore a mix of blues and classic rock, and her new EP “Ramblings and Recollections” chronicles her move toward a progressive folk sound. Her early exposure to opera training cultivated a powerful vocal instrument, and her affinity for easy listening, folk, and soft rock gave her an impressive command of quiet intensity. All these diverse influences result in an incredibly wide range of ability which commands attention and keeps listeners riveted.
“She can sing her stories in a way that’s very light, airy, and soft, or she can thunder up some gritty, gravelly, assertive singing…We were completely captivated by her charisma!”
- Jeri’ Kanally, Harrington Opera House
Mel keeps a full schedule as a solo artist and also plays in the Coeur d’Alene area with The Midnight Juliets, an all-woman country/bluegrass trio featuring fellow vocalist Chrissy Summering and fiddle player Erica Janelle. She’s passionate about locally grown food, progressive choruses, and the Oxford comma.
Ramblings and Recollections
…is a 5-track EP that runs the relationship gamut from the excitement of a meet-cute through dark times of escapism and dissociation to the healing that comes with new beginnings.
The breezy story song “Jackson Browne” leads off, with the otherworldly feel of “The Key of H” following closely behind. “The Moon and the Mountains” and “Further Down” evoke two sides of depression - the mask we show the outside world, and the exposed soul that we keep to ourselves. The EP finishes on a hopeful note with “Never the Same,” an uplifting look forward at possibilities.
It’s about building your own reality. It’s about the experiences of life and how we can shape them into what we want and need.
Ramblings and Recollections is available for streaming and download on all major platforms.
